Discovery launches Vitality in Canada off strong adoption in US

By Lameez Omarjee

Johannesburg – Discovery has launched Manulife Vitality, its Vitality offering in Canada, the South African-based financial services group announced on Thursday.

discovery-Vitality-500x339Fin24 previously reported that Discovery was looking to develop its Global Vitality Network, which includes John Hancock Vitality in the US and Generali in Germany. The group said that it would roll out Generali in France and Austria next year.

Discovery’s shared-value insurance model incentivises healthy living by pricing behaviour into the cost of insurance. Similarly, Manulife will reward Canadians for “living a healthy life”, the group said in a statement.

“Manulife is now actively partnering with customers who want to achieve physical and financial health and overall wellbeing,” stated Marianne Harrison, president and CEO of Manulife Canada.

Manulife Financial Corporation is an international financial services organisation which operates as John Hancock in the United States and Manulife in Asia and Canada. The company provides financial advice, insurance and wealth and asset management solutions for individuals, groups and institutions.

John Hancock Vitality in the US showed strong adoption rates, Discovery CEO Adrian Gore said at the announcement of the group’s financial results earlier in September. Harrison affirmed this: “John Hancock Vitality has very quickly become a material piece of our new business in the United States.”

“The insurance industry has a unique role to play in promoting better societal health. Expanding the reach of Vitality through leading insurance partners such as Manulife enhances our ability to positively impact the lives of millions of people around the globe by improving their health,” added Gore. – Fin24
