As you read this, I’m on the way home after another intense learning week in Davos. For the past 11 years the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting has been my opportunity to absorb the world’s economic agenda of the coming year. The WEF’s 2015 meeting, its 45th renewal, did not disappoint.
Best read of many pieces  Biznews published from Davos was my interview with SA’s former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. She left Government after the Zuma faction’s Polokwane coup, and before joining the UN to drive the gender equality agenda, did a PhD in mobile technology. Phumzile has applied that knowledge to good effect in her “He for She” project where a staggering one billion people have engaged through social media.
After plugging into the new world. Phumzile describes herself as a “cool Gogo”. That she is – and a lot more. I’m not alone in hoping it isn’t too long before she returns home. But for now, her achievements at the UN – and the way she shines on global stages like Davos – are a reminder that South Africa possesses some truly talented leaders. You just need to look in the right places.
