Braaing meat

From the RDM newswire

The country’s top three boerewors-makers have been announced and this year‚ for the first time‚ the public will be able to choose which one of them is the numero uno maker of arguably the nation’s most popular braai meat.

The three contestants vying for the top honour are Phinah Maimela (37) from Lydenburg in Mpumalanga‚ George Baloyi (52) from Soshanguve in Gauteng and Ayanda Dyanse (28) from Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape‚ whose recipes were adjudged the best out of 18 at the Hop n Vine Festival in Cape Town on Saturday.

The judges from the South African Chef’s Association included a food safety officer‚ a teacher‚ a 14-year-old school pupil‚ a programmer‚ printer and factory manager and some apparently very skilled butchers.

Judged over six rounds‚ the competition saw over 650 recipes tasted by the judges.

The winning recipe will be announced on September 16.
