First Molefe, now Pamensky – expect more Eskom dynamite

By Alec Hogg

Got a call from Joburg this week from a good pal who you might call “embedded” in the ANC. He was distraught. For the first time since he returned to SA in the mid-90s, he’s thinking about going back to America.

Everywhere he looks, my friend shared, he sees corruption, abuse, theft. The way he sees it, the Guptas provided a crude State Capture template which a bunch of freelancers are now mimicking. And because it has bills to pay, Luthuli House isn’t asking any questions about the source of its “donations”.

I reminded him it is often darkest before the dawn. And after Gupta deployed Mark Pamensky’s resignation from Eskom’s board yesterday, that might well prove the case.

Pamensky, a Gupta mothership director, was the most obvious example of the Crony Capitalist takeover of Eskom’s directorate. That he has so quickly followed fellow Gupta aligned CEO Brian Molefe out the building tells us a lot. Expect more dynamite to come. There is never just a couple of cockroaches in dirty kitchens.
