Zwelinzima Vavi: “I have a dream for SA in 2017…”

President Jacob Zuma’s path to power is littered with casualties, none more so than Zwelinzima Vavi who once hailed him as the ‘unstoppable tsunami’. Fast forward a few years later, and Vavi has done a 180, calling for Zuma to resign. With the last straw the revelations around the bogus trade union WAU. Vavi also recently created a stir on Biznews, after his comments following the release of private school matric results, tweeting that private schooling is the source and face of deepening inequalities. But whatever you may think of the trade union kingpin, this is his dream for South Africa in 2017. – Stuart Lowman

“I have a dream. I’ve always had this dream from my earliest days working as a child labourer, looking for work among neighbouring farms, and then in the gold mines in Klerksdorp and Orkney. My dream is that one day soon, this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of the promises and contract that was made in 1995. And that every South African, will enjoy the sweet fruits of dignity, equality and opportunity.”
