South Korea’s industrial output rebounded in June from two months of decline, with mobile and semiconductor products leading the way, government data showed Wednesday.
Production in theΒ mining, manufacturing, gas and electricity industries in June rose 2.9 percent from May, Statistics Korea said.
The growth followed a 0.1 percent on-month decline in April and a 2.7 percent fall in May.
Production of semiconductors and parts surged 11.2 percent on-month, pushed by greater demand for mobile handsets in South Korea and abroad.
“The turnaround in output this month is because of a low base effect — last month’s figures were low — as well as improvement in exports and domestic demand, especially for mobile handsets and semiconductors,” a senior official of Statistics Korea said.
Exports from Asia’s fourth largest economy rose 2.5 percent in June from a year ago on robust shipments of tech products and steel, South Korea’s trade ministry said Tuesday.
