Greetings from London. My missives are likely to become erratic this week because of the hectic schedule that’s invariable planned on overseas visits – a function of the eye-popping cost for Rand-based visitors; allied to the rational natural desire to get home as soon as possible.
A couple of things, though, have already struck me about visiting the city which was our home for three fascinating years. Although summer is some way off, there are masses of tourists. Plus, progress is very visible, like the London underground’s impressive new Elizabeth line which opens up the West (and Heathrow).

It was sparked by BizNews tribesman Leon Breytenbach asking what the Oxford Don might make of calls for a return of the Mbeki Era – or, indeed, perhaps the 80 year old former president himself.
Johnson applied his considerable mind to the subject and bursts the nostalgic bubble.
