JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – South Africa’s headline consumer inflation was steady at 6.6 percent year-on-year in June compared with May, StatisticsSouth Africa said on Wednesday, against market expectations it would quicken to 6.7 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, CPI came in slightly higher at 0.3 percent in June from 0.2 percent previously.
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, edged higher to 5.6 percent from 5.5 percent, and accelerated to 0.6 percent month-on-month compared with 0.1 percent in May.
