JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – South Africa’s headline consumer inflation slowed to 5.9 percent year-on-year in September, below market expectations of 6.1 percent and compared to 6.4 percent in August, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis CPI was at 0.0 percent from 0.4 percent in August.
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy, braked to 5.6 percent year-on-year, from 5.8 percent, but quickened to 0.4 percent on a month-on-month basis, from 0.3 percent in August.
