Despite today’s media reports, South African President Jacob Zuma says he is not in the market to add a wife to the four he currently has.  A statement from the Presidency says a journalist misunderstood an isiZulu idiom when Zuma joked that he did not have “indlu yokugugela”, which the journalist reported as a hint about taking another wife. Zuma’s office says: “It is unfortunate that such misrepresentation clouded the reporting of an otherwise beautiful occasion.” The organiser’s command of the English language is not quite so beautiful. As we read in the SAPA report below, the KZN Premier’s signwriter qualifies in competence alongside the infamous sign language man at the Mandela funeral. Who employs these people? – AHÂ
From the SA Press Association:
For poor and destitute families in Durban’s Savannah Park area Christmas cheer came early when they received gifts on Tuesday including R50,000 from President Jacob Zuma.
Zuma, who addressed the large crowd, lamented the fact that not enough care was being given to the elderly and young children.
He announced a R50,000 donation that he said would go towards helping orphaned children.
The event saw many entertainers, but a sign from the office of the KwaZulu-Natal premier drew the attention of media covering the event in hot humid weather.
It appeared to borrow from former US President George W. Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” education policy, but instead read: “Living (sic) No One Behind”. – SAPA
