Media statement from the Presidency
President Jacob Zuma today, 06 March 2016, met with KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Izinduna in Durban to discuss, amongst others, the long-standing issue of their remuneration.

The meeting was convened by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government and was attended by KZN Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu and KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
Izinduna had raised concerns about the proclamation determining the salaries of Izinduna which was approved by the President following recommendations by the Commission on the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, as they had not been paid by the provincial government.
The meeting today discussed this matter and agreed that Izinduna should be recognised for the work that they do in their traditional communities.
The meeting also reiterated the need for a legislative review to ensure uniform national standards in the way traditional institutions and their representatives are recognised and supported by the democratically elected government.
