We’re rather passionate here at Biznews.com. Never more so than on Budget Day, when our team gets to show what we’ve really got. Today will be another of those special days. And as you read this, I’m already working through relevant documents in the “lock-up” – a sealed off incommunicado section monitored by Treasury officials.
Those of us in “lock-up” get to compile our reports, tables, and commentary from information that’s still a big secret to the outside world. We also get to participate in a Press Conference with Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene that helps answer any tricky questions. This means that by the time Mr Nene takes the podium to address the nation, our production team at Biznews will have processed everything and once the Minister opens his mouth, publishes all the Budget details and analysis at the press of a button.
So please do come and visit Biznews today – especially just after 2pm when you’ll be able to judge how productively I have been employed during the six previous hours. This promises to be the most interesting Budget Speech in years – detailing decisions taken during the most challenging Budgeting year for our young democracy.
We’ll know early this afternoon whether the new Finance Minister deserves his reputation as a sensible, no-nonsense technocrat. See you later.
