WATCH: Wayde van Niekerk shatters 300m world record, enters history books

JOHANNESBURG — Wonderboy of South African athletics, 24-year-old Wayde van Niekerk, has for the second time surpassed Michael Johnson and broken a world record. Last night, he broke the 300m world record of 30.85sec set in Pretoria in 2000 by Johnson. Van Niekerk smashed the world record at the Golden Spike meet at the Mestsky Stadium in the northeastern Czech city of Ostrava in 30.81 seconds last night. The last time Van Niekerk surpassed Johnson’s record was at the 2016 Rio Olympics where he smashed the 400m world record.
