As part of Uber’s commitment to address concerns raised by South African drivers, Uber drivers will now be covered by Chubb under a secured injury protection cover.
In the event of an accident or crime-related incident during a trip, drivers would have access to emergency medical treatment, death and permanent disability payments.
Kudos to Chubb for taking this on given many insurance companies have decided the risk factor of taking on Uber drivers is too risky. But at what price?
Whilst one cannot deny from a consumer aspect that drivers need the protection, does this move further suggest that these drivers should no longer be considered independents?
