Man Utd boss Moyes already facing the Axe?

Manchester United

While the threat of firing in the English Premier League can’t be anywhere as bad as in South Africa where coaches last months, not years before being recycled to another club, certainly David Moyes must be facing a challenging period of introspection as the Manchester United faithful and brains’ trust try to figure out if it’s worth keeping him on.

Sir Alex Ferguson created a dynasty at United between 1986 and 2013. Certainly one of the most highly influential and respected managers in the game he WAS Manchester United. When David Beckham got too big, Fergie got rid of him. There was only place for one large personality and that was reserved for Ferguson.

Love him or hate him, he delivered for Man Utd.  He lasted over 26 years and delivered 13 league championships, five FA Cup titles, a further four in the League Cup, UEFA Champions League (twice) and  UEFA Champions Cup (once).

Moyes, the former Everton manager, by contrast has overseen Man Utd slip into trouble.  And if rumours are to be believed, he could be on his way out sooner than many might expect. After a run of strong results (that came off the back of some indifferent – even poor – performances before that) United lost at home to Spurs, before suffering a loss at Old Trafford to Swansea City in the FA Cup. It was Swansea’s first-ever win over United at Old Trafford.

They are currently in seventh position on the log with 10 wins in 20 outings, but failing to establish a top four finish and a route into the lucrative Champions League could spell disaster for the this super club. They are by no means dead and buried yet; they’re five points adrift of Liverpool in fourth spot and 11 behind Arsenal, the current log leaders. But their iffy form this season suggests that there are no guarantees that their pedigree and reputation will make up for a lack of form.

Your home should be your fortress, but strangely enough, four of the last six matches at Old Trafford have ended in defeat for United which will also add to the anti-Moyes brigade, whose numbers increase by the match (and defeat).

With a war chest of 50 million Pounds, Moyes has the cash to buy during the transfer window, but will it save him his job?
