In theory, the US presidential election is all over bar the celebrations. After four tumultuous years, Washington’s ‘swamp drainer’ Donald Trump is about to get ejected. And ‘middle class’ Joe, a long-time trier and former VP to president Barack Obama, is set to move into the main suite of a famous building he knows rather well.

Pollsters put Biden 10 points ahead. In 2016 they had Hilary Clinton 3 points ahead. She won the popular vote by 2% but lost the presidency because of the electoral college vote system. Trump supporters are hoping the polls are wrong again. But the spread is three times greater than four years ago. Indeed, it’s in landslide territory.

Big Media is once again solidly behind the Democratic Party’s nominee. With few exceptions, reporters have studiously avoided highighting 77-year-old Biden’s frailties which seem obvious to any neutral. Maybe it’s because sensibilities have become so affronted by the incumbent that it’s become a question of ‘anyone but Trump…’  A bit like the ANC at Polokwane. Something for which our nation paid dearly.
At BizNews we don’t endorse candidates in our own country’s elections, so to opine on who we’d put in the White House would be presumptious. But that we must pay close attention is obvious. The US only houses 5% of humanity, but accounts for 25% of global wealth and over 50% of tradeable assets. A Biden victory would introduce change. All change brings fresh opportunity.
Whomever you’re rooting for, as with all US elections this one is sure to be fun to watch. Our partners at the Wall Street Journal are providing a treasure chest of continually-updated assets to help us follow the action as votes come in. Access them by clicking on the headlines below:
