Yesterday I listened to the audio of Monday’s Great Covid Debate between Prof Alan Whiteside and PANDA’s Nick Hudson. It confirmed my impression during the webinar that we were witnessing high quality discourse. These mature gents clearly set out their perspectives, answered an overflow of questions from an engaged audience and respectfully challenged each other. There was also plenty of common ground. Have a listen when you get a chance.

Another coronavirus-related piece worth consuming today is a third update on the pandemic scenarios from masterful Clem Sunter. His previous contribution was seven months ago, so we were overdue more of Clem’s wisdom. On the downside, it’s back to step one with exchange control on retirement funds. Pretoria yesterday suspended a change in regulation that allows 100% of your RA to be allocated into the 99.5% of investible assets NOT listed on the JSE. Vested interests went wild, Tito blinked and the authorities signalled their intention to reinstate the previous status quo where 70% of RA investments are forced into (poorly performing) local assets.
