Elon Musk sported a Kim Jong-un hairstyle for his half hour at the WSJ CEO Summit this week. And then proceeded to deliver one of the most thoughtful (and politically-incorrect) interviews you’re likely to experience this year.
The polymath from Pretoria want to officially drop the title of CEO having applied to the US stock market authorities to be called, instead, Tesla’s “Techno King” – a joke, he admits, but reflective of his rejection of conventions that he reckons make little sense.
Among assertions aired are rejection of US president Joe Biden’s infrastructure spending spree (Musk wants all subsidies abolished); his counter cultural argument that mankind desperately needs to get procreating (he has six kids); and a determination to use technology for good – like implants which can overcome spinal cord injuries. Also productive, especially to counter to those downplaying Covid-19 as “just a bad flu”, is the story republished below from our partners at The Wall Street Journal. The numbers tell the real story: Death claims in the US last year rose by 15% – the biggest increase in more than a century.
More for you to read today:
- About All Those Pandemic Billionaires. Thomas Piketty shows how government stoked wealth inequality. WSJ’s Editorial Board calls the conclusions he reached in the report “a turkey”.
- Madrid, the City That Wouldn’t Lock Down. Isabel Díaz Ayuso called for freedom, kept the regional economy going, and won big at the polls.
- Is the Metaverse Really the Next Big Thing? Its advocates say more immersive interfaces will increase our sense of presence. They may have their definitions wrong.
