Almost seven years ago, we published Google co-founder Larry Page’s views on how the future would look. Among his rather radical predictions was a 95% collapse in the price of homes in densely populated areas – sparked by connectivity enabling workers to relocate to more appealing geographies.
At the invitation of good friends, I spent the long weekend in the bushveld. It’s my ‘thinking place’, a cell-phone free zone ideal to refresh, recharge and reimagine. For some time now we’ve been re-assessing the most ideal place to live. Not surprisingly, Page’s long range forecasts came to mind.
BizNews has always been a remote company. Having staff dotted around the world is part of our DNA. We have long used tech tools to ensure we’re at least as well connected as more traditional, centralised organisations. So making a home far away from the stresses of the Big Smoke has always been an option for our team.
Seeing how the pandemic accelerated the remote work trend among formerly centralised corporations, however, surprised even remote-based pioneers like ourselves. We’ll be exploring the concept again at noon when I host SA entrepreneurial giant Adrian Gardiner and friends. They’ll be sharing details about their latest project in St Francis. Tailored to satisfy anyone with the relocation-to-the-coast bug. If you’re able to join us, click here to register.
