On Wednesday, US authorities announced that they had intercepted “pipe-bomb type devices” addressed to former US president Barack Obama, former secretary of state Hilary Clinton, a Democratic Representative from Florida, and CNN. The devices were similar to the one found at billionaire George Soros’ home in New York on Monday.

At the time I’m writing this, there’s no information on who sent the devices or why, although it does appear as if Democrats have been targeted. Whether it turns out to be the work of a disaffected right-wing fanatic, an extremist terrorist group, or a foreign government, the attack – amateurish as it was – will likely further stoke anxiety as the US heads into its mid-term elections. Yet another sign of the uncertainty of our times.
