The ANC is trying to downplay SA’s full-blown crisis caused by the ruling party’s arms-to-Russia debacle. Big League countries, however, aren’t buying it. The consequences for this storied country of “No Consequences” have begun.
In another superb piece penned for us, inimitable RW Johnson explains how South Africa’s exclusion from Sunday’s G7 meeting in Hiroshima is directly related to the scandal. The replacement, he adds, says much about the way geo-political power is shifting.

To put it bluntly, the Oxford Don is sceptical, describing the delegation as lacking in “leverage or even any real moral status”.
