The world is changing fast and to keep up you need local knowledge with global context.
South Africa’s biggest mobile network by subscribers today said goodbye to the chief officer of its business unit, Vuyani Jarana, who is set to end his 22-year run at the company.
Jarana is joining SAA as its new CEO. It’s clear that the state-owned airline is gaining a hugely experienced business executive as current Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub has given Jarana a glowing endorsement.
Jarana said joining SAA “will be the most challenging phase of my personal journey thus far.” You can say that again – especially considering that the airline is flying precipitously close to bankruptcy.
But we wish Jarana all the best and if he can turn the airline around, he’ll become a legend in corporate South Africa. Meanwhile, this email will also be a departure of a different kind as it will be the last PM update landing in your inbox. We’re shifting to a morning update from tomorrow. As the saying goes the early bird catches the worm.
