Artificial intelligence (AI) is the future – at least, that’s what Google tells me, and I guess it would know. Google parent company Alphabet has been opening AI research centres in tech hubs around the world, including Paris, Tokyo, and of course, northern California. This week, Google announced its first African AI research centre, which will be located in Accra, Ghana.
Google collects way more data than Facebook and we spend more time on Google properties than we do on Facebook. What’s more, Google is not just sitting on the data it collects. It’s deploying it, aggressively, through a huge and growing number of artificial intelligence-enhanced tools and applications.
You know what was a great investment? Amazon stock in 1997, when it was priced at $18. Why did Amazon explode like that? It wasn’t just because the company is great at customer service or because it sells stuff people like. It’s because Amazon successfully plugged into a megatrend – people switching to shopping online.
