Bongi Mbonambi will make his first start for the Springboks against Italy in Padova, while Pieter-Steph du Toit returns to the starting team for Saturday’s third Test in the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour.
Springbok coach Allister Coetzee has been consistent with his selection, though he has rewarded Bulls fullback Warrick Gelant and Sharks centre Lukhanyo Am after excellent Currie Cup seasons.
You’d expect the Bok side to be loaded with Lions players. However just seven Lions players made the cut. Warren Whiteley is injured and Ruan Dreyer, Ruan Combrinck, Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Faf de Klerk – all previous Springboks – are out of favour.
