MJ’s innovative spirit lives on: FNB tablets for R99pm

First National Bank (FNB) has announced the addition of a low-cost tablet as part of its discounted device offering, which it has been driving since the end of 2011 in a bid to encourage cashless payments and digital banking.

At R99 per month for the Lenovo Ideatab, FNB says it hopes to make smart devices affordable for South Africans who previously would not have been able to afford them.

Kartik Mistry, head of smart devices at FNB, notes smartphone and tablet penetration is increasing rapidly in SA. “It is important that we do our part to make this happen so that more people have access to the devices and technology that enables them to bank digitally.”

As part of the bank’s technology and digital banking drive, it has also introduced the FNB Guru desk – a service centre customers can contact to get help on tech issues, including how to use the bank’s app and setting up new devices.

FNB says it will continue to expand its range of devices at “accessible price points”.

Device details

The Lenovo Ideatab is a seven-inch 3G and WiFi-enabled tablet that runs on Google’s Android operating system. The device comes with a protective cover and can be paid off over a 24-month, interest-free period.

FNB customers can order devices online or SMS the word “data” to 31138.

The Lenovo Ideatab features include:

* 16GB storage
* A micro SD card slot (for up to 64GB of external storage)
* A Quad Core 1.2GHz processor
* 7-inch IPS Multi Touch display
* 1 024 x 600 resolution
