The world is changing fast and to keep up you need local knowledge with global context.
UPDATE. US rocker Katya tells BizNews that her YouTube account has been compromised. Her new #JUSTICE4REEVASTEENKAMP song disappeared from the social media video channel this weekend. She has reloaded it on Vimeo – and you can watch it here (scroll down). Katya is on tour in Japan and says she will investigate what has happened to her YouTube account when she returns to the US. Katya got a record deal after BizNews published the details of her song focusing on the verdict in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial. The judge’s findings that the athlete was not guilty of premeditated murder or murder for shooting his girlfriend through a locked toilet door have shocked many trial watchers around the world. – JC

A US musician has released a moving Reeva Steenkamp ballad (scroll down to listen). Katya, who describes herself as a first-generation Los Angeles native and Russian Freedom Rocker has written lyrics, to a piano composition, about the Oscar Pistorius murder trial verdict.
Katya has been watching the televised trial from the US and it is clear that she believes there has been no justice for Reeva Steenkamp. Her Twitter feed reveals the sense of outrage she feels that Steenkamp is dead while Pistorius looks set to continue with his life, potentially making money out of a book and movie.
A Twitter campaign to boycott Oscar Pistorius has been building since the verdict was delivered last week that he is not guilty of murder. Katya is sympathetic to boycott campaigners.
Her Twitter page (@) carries a #JUSTICE4REEVA picture. The glamorous musician says that she is donating the proceeds of the #JUSTICE4REEVASTEENKAMP song to the shooting victim’s parents, Barry and June Steenkamp.
Lyrics include references to the controversial “not guilty” verdict to murder and premeditated murder as well as points about Judge Thokozile Masipa’s explanation for her findings. In the song, Katya urges people to boycott Oscar Pistorius’s commercial endeavours.
According to the musician’s website she is a songwriter, performer and musician with a repertoire of more than 300 songs. She is a trained classical pianist. She has composed another song about Reeva Steenkamp: In the Ocean’s Arms (see below).
Katya has appeared on television, including on Simon Cowell’s America’s Got Talent and reality television series Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.
The purple-and-raven haired artist has also written a book: How to Calm and Tame Your Dog Naturally She is putting the finishing touches to an accessory line – “Rock wear for dogs (&humans too!)”.
