The guaranteed method of remaining ignorant

By Alec Hogg

Absolutely loved Jackie Cameron’s story that topped the Biznews charts yesterday. As she writes, Ian Liddle, John Biccard and some other money managers with a few grey hairs are once again coming out tops in the unit trust performance tables. The tougher the conditions, the greater one benefits from having been there, done that.

But it’s also true you don’t need to butt heads with a wall to learn cement is tougher than your skull. My favourite definition of a wise man is one who has the ability to learn from the experience of others. All it takes to stay on this path is the humility of an open mind. And as a younger friend inverted for us this week, ignorance is guaranteed by contempt before investigation.
