A friend asked whether I’d developed schizophrenia. Monday’s newsletter was all about encouraging our French friends to come set up home in South Africa. Tuesday’s was very different – explaining how the double standards of trade union NUMSA was chasing investment away from the country. What’s this? An incarnation of Benjamin Graham’s Mr Market?
Not quite. It makes no sense to ignore realities. SA’s labour relations are a blind spot for anyone in the ANC who rises higher than chair-arranger. But we’re still a long way from the real basket cases of the world. Sanity will prevail. Eventually. Once We the People, realise we possess one of the most powerful weapons available to any citizen anywhere in the world. A Constitution which guarantees our right to be part of a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic nation. Read it again. Especially the section on the Bill of Rights. And you’ll get what I mean.
