A friend took an hour to drive just over one kilometre this morning as Johannesburg traffic came to a grinding halt. The immediate assumption was Eskom load shedding. Give a dog a bad name and all that…..But this time it’s got nothing to do with the power utility. Soon after I posted this video, Eskom executive director Steve Lennon sent me the tweet below:
@alechogg @YouTube no load shedding today. Outages due to systems failure not related to shedding. We stopped shedding at 22h00 Sun night.

Not sure which is worse. A planned shutdown or a failure of the “system” that caused the area to be shut off the grid from 6pm to 9:30pm last night – and then again from a most inconvenient 6am this morning. Oy vey. – AH
