A discussion in the office yesterday reminded me of my old SABC boss, the late Christo Kritzinger. As near to perfect an example of a Damascene Conversion as you’d ever find, Christo became a devoted supporter of the New SA at a time when many others weren’t so sure. He also invested a lot of effort in up-skilling himself – sharing much of what he learnt with the rest of us.
It was Christo who introduced me to the life changing Stephen Covey book “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” It’s still top of my recommended reading list for those who ask. In the context of yesterday’s discussion, perhaps the most valuable advice he ever gave me was pretty simple. Think, he said. Really think. Take decisions, but before you do so think about it. Because if you have thought it through, and it doesn’t work out, you’ll have learnt something. Otherwise it was just a wasteful mistake.
Great advice. Which, along with Covey’s masterpiece, were gifts that I’ll be forever grateful for. Thanks Christo.
