Recommended books as a gift for the person who has everything

If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for that person in your family who’s impossible to buy for, allow me to recommend two non-fiction books that have topped SA’s bestseller lists this year.

RW Johnson’s “How long will SA survive?” is a must-read for anyone who wants to be properly informed of challenges facing our country. We’ve given the book plenty of richly deserved airplay on Biznews. Once you’ve read it, the passing parade of crony capitalism, corruption and the network of patronage falls into place.

The other book that’s deservedly been flying off the shelves is the autobiography of Olivia Forsythe, “Agent 407”, about a wanna-be Apartheid era double agent who was spurned by the ANC when she tried to swap sides. Olivia ended up being imprisoned at the notorious Quatro prison in Angola and when she returned, her story was used as propaganda tool by the Apartheid Regime. This one’s a real page turner and a reminder of what SA has come through.

I’m loving Irina Filatova’s “The Hidden Thread” and although not even a quarter way through can also recommend it. And Justice Malala’s “We have begun our descent” is next in line and highly recommended by everyone I know who has beaten me to it. Any bookworm would be eternally grateful to have all four in their library. I am.
