Fake news gets SAPS General’s stamp of approval – O’Sullivan accused of treason

Yesterday marked exactly a year since Pravin Gordhan was re-appointed South Africa’s Minister of Finance, providing a rallying icon for those fighting galloping corruption. The anniversary also delivered an appropriate reminder of how desperate the forces of darkness are getting.

In one of the most bizarre developments in an outlandish year, police chief Major General Prince Mokotedi yesterday recommended forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and two other high profile corruption busters be charged with treason, corruption, attempted murder and a string of other heinous crimes.

His assertion is based on information from a “source” who told him the conspirators had met at O’Sullivan’s house to hatch a plan which included the assassination of himself and fellow police chief Berning Ntlemeza. No date is given. Nor is the source named.

Looks like a classic example of fake news hitting the SAPS’s upper echelon. Funny thing, though. Last Friday we published O’Sullivan’s detailed investigation that gave dates, names and other details of how Mokotedi and others had criminalised the SA justice system. There is nothing more powerful than truth. Nor more desperate than a crook who has been cornered. Hope springs.
