Proud day for SA journalism as solidarity rules at the courthouse

There have been a few times in the past year I wished Elon Musk's futuristic hyperloop was already with us. Sunny South Africa has obvious appeal in the middle of the British winter. But today I'd like to be back in Joburg for an altogether different reason.

The journalistic community has rallied around colleagues attacked by Gupta-funded activists and will be turning out en masse at the courthouse to support the application being brought by the SA National Editors Forum. Among those wearing black armbands in solidarity will be the other members of late Suna Venter's SABC8.

Cornerstones of South Africa's constitutional democracy have been stress tested over the past few months and not found wanting. Shows of support of the kind SA will see today send a strong message to those attempting to undo the world's modern day democratic miracle.
