Over the years, I’ve often received a great deal of well-intentioned advice that produced disastrous results. But it hasn’t stopped me listening to those kindly souls determined to share their experiences. Or to offer my own suggestions.
After spending the past week in Johannesburg, I’m determined to change that. The big question among all I met was whither South Africa. And what they should do about it. Their inputs generated feelings ranging from inspirational to depressing; resigned to excited.
The common thread among all I met, though, was that the two months leading up to the ANC elective conference will be interesting. Rationality will become a rare commodity. The politics of power will be paramount.
