Frank Magwegwe’s journey was literally from a cardboard bed to a chair in the boardroom. He hails from the Eastern Cape and when moving to Johannesburg, he spent 27 weeks jobless and homeless living on the streets. He found opportunity hawking food, and the rest is history. His inspirational story is told here. Below Frank shares his dream for South Africa in 2017, one that looks at stripping away the very thing he had to endure – unemployment. – Stuart Lowman

“I have a dream. I have always had this dream from my days in the early 1990’s as a broke, homeless, unemployed young man in Johannesburg. This experience taught me that employment is necessary for people and society since it leads people to find purpose, meaning and dignity in life. My dream is that the great tragedy of unemployment, in particular youth unemployment, that strips away human dignity is tackled with renewed vigour. For young people, this tragedy has lasting effects on their lifetime income.”
