Meet the Team

13 people, one mission
Alec Hogg

Founder & Editor

Alec Hogg

Alec Hogg, media entrepreneur and BizNews.com founder, champions objective opportunities in media with an independent content approach. Inspired by Warren Buffett, he leads a committed team, creating live, unique premium newsletters, and engaging on social media. After a successful 12-year tenure at Moneyweb, Hogg sold his share in 2012, launching BizNews.com in 2013. The self-funded site, dedicated to a powerful and prosperous South Africa, reaches over a million people a month via three avenues – the website Biznews.com, the YouTube television BizNewsTV; and direct relationships with those who take daily newsletters, an annual BizNews Conference, social media posts, and podcasts. After globetrotting revenue streams in London from 2010 to 2013, Hogg returned to South Africa to drive the site’s independent news coverage as its editor.

Jeanette Hogg

Co-Founder & Director of Special Projects

As co-founder, she works quietly behind the scenes, providing essential inspiration, guidance, and strategic direction to the executive management team. With a background as a commercial artist, lecturer, and certified life coach, Jeanette seamlessly bridges the gap between human psychology and corporate brand building. She manages BizNews’s special projects, masterminding the experience and execution of the brand’s premium conferences. Furthermore, she is spearheading BizNews’s latest growth frontier: MindLines, an innovative corporate wellness and neuroplasticity initiative designed to help professionals transition from ‘frazzle to flow’ through intentional drawing. Jeanette’s mission remains focused on driving strategic brand growth while inspiring others to live boldly and purposefully.

Irakli Rekhviashvili

Head of Growth

Irakli Rekhviashvili

Irakli Rekhviashvili, a multimedia business journalist and data scientist, brings a rare combination of analytical firepower and storytelling craft to BizNews as Head of Growth. Armed with a Master’s in Media Ventures from Boston University (3.94 GPA) and a Bachelor of Business Science in Economics from the University of Cape Town, he sharpened his instincts in South Africa’s financial sector at Discovery — first analysing consumer-behaviour data across half a billion records as a data scientist at Discovery Health, then helping launch the Revolving Credit Facility, Home Loan and Personal Loan products as a quantitative analyst at Discovery Bank. Having also shaped market-entry strategy at Frost & Sullivan and modelled film-financing credit at SMC Specialty Finance in Los Angeles, Irakli now applies that blend of rigour and audience intuition to BizNews — turning a large, engaged readership into a thriving subscription business through disciplined experimentation, sharp positioning, and an obsessive focus on what the numbers reveal.

Chris Steyn

Investigative Reporter

Chris Steyn

I am a fighter for justice. The members of my constituency are victims, whistleblowers, and the poor. I give a voice to those who are not heard, seen, or respected. I am willing to be vilified for doing so, and I see paying the price for truth-telling as part of my calling as a journalist. I am also a horsewoman, a swordsman, and a collector of books. I am privileged to be the Investigative Reporter at BizNews, where independence enables me to hold even the most powerful to account.
