BizNews.com is a disruptive internet publishing business which was founded in August 2013. It embraces Jeff Bezos's Day One philosophy of using software instead of people wherever possible, thus freeing its brainpower to focus on fulfilling an obsessive customer focus. It has a physical head office in Hermanus, Western Cape, and a team spread across the world. With hubs in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and London, BizNews is uniquely positioned to serve South Africans with a global mindset through independent reporting and commentary on local and global issues that affect their lives. The subscription service features bespoke commentary, exclusive WhatsApp and Twitter channels, and investment webinars.

Alec Hogg, media entrepreneur and BizNews.com founder, champions objective opportunities in media with an independent content approach. Inspired by Warren Buffett, he leads a committed team, creating live, unique premium newsletters, and engaging on social media. After a successful 12-year tenure at Moneyweb, Hogg sold his share in 2012, launching BizNews.com in 2013. The self-funded site, dedicated to a powerful and prosperous South Africa, reaches over a million people a month via three avenues – the website Biznews.com, the YouTube television BizNewsTV; and direct relationships with those who take daily newsletters, an annual BizNews Conference, social media posts, and podcasts. After globetrotting revenue streams in London from 2010 to 2013, Hogg returned to South Africa to drive the site’s independent news coverage as its editor.

A qualified Commercial artist, a certified Life Coach, an author, and entrepreneur, I started my career lecturing in art and design at the Vaal Triangle Technikon. My passion for raw and authentic human beings stems from my love for teaching, nurtured in 2012. I started my own business where I honed my required skills. This helped uncover core human values. Through my teaching others, learning years later knowledge and market fit. I now serve as the cheerleader for the BizNews team. My mission is to inspire others to live BIG by being true to themselves and following their purpose.
I am a fighter for justice. The members of my constituency are victims, whistleblowers, and the poor. I give a voice to those who are not heard, seen, or respected. I am willing to be vilified for doing so, and I see paying the price for truth-telling as part of my calling as a journalist. I am also a horsewoman, a swordsman, and a collector of books. I am privileged to be the Investigative Reporter at BizNews, where independence enables me to hold even the most powerful to account.
Rooted in South Africa and the UK, I began as a senior political correspondent at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, covering political transition for over a decade, as Newcastle Editor at Johannesburg. I played a vital role in establishing the news team. I've worked as a South African political radio analyst, contributed to US publications, worked on CNBC Europe projects, and served as Newsreader Editor for a Radio4/Sunday Times initiative. I contribute regularly to BizNews, hosting remote interviews from London, and I covered the World Economic Forum in Davos for BizNews.
I graduated from Rhodes University with a Bachelor of Journalism, specializing in Television and Documentary. At 24 years of age, I hail from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and have been based in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, and the Western Cape in the last five years. I have a particular claim to BizNews, as I work through multimedia content. I am sports-observant – cricket, football, and rugby – loving the actual analytical thrill of the ever-changing landscape of BizNews. I am inspired by truths and freedom of information, and thoroughly passionate to help meet every South African's right to that information.
I started my retail sales and marketing career in 2002, but my real passion and interest lie in business development, branding, and marketing. I love understanding the needs of every business I work with, helping to grow businesses organically and creatively, communicating with clients, and implementing strategy-driven success. I love being a part of the design and distribution team, creating new innovative opportunities for the long term. My personal growth is one of my top values, and it is what I love about working with BizNews. We are constantly learning and growing within the industry we serve, and I find a dose of humility extremely useful.
I am a young professional currently situated in the wonderful Western Cape. My passion for business and investing began only after high school when I started my own company.
