Eyethu Orange Farm Mall, a 27 000sqm regional shopping mall that is 10% owned by the local community, is set to open on 28 October 2014.

Co-owners of the project – each with a 30% stake – are its developers Stretford

Land Developments and Flanagan & Gerard Investments, as well as JSE listed property company Dipula Income Fund.

The local community's equity participation in the development was facilitated by the National Empowerment Fund's Rural & Community Development Fund unit.

One of the features of Eyethu Orange Farm Mall is its sponsorship of space for two key community services: a day care centre for Afrika Tikkun, an NGO that deals with early child development, and a home for local radio station Theta FM, which has over 300 000 listeners.

The development is situated at the heart of the Orange Farm area's new central business district and its main transport hub.

Close to 1 250 local residents of Orange Farm have so far been employed in the construction of the new mall.
