Premium – RW Johnson channels his inner John McEnroe: “Cyril, you cannot be serious.”
During our visit last week on the well-stocked bookshelves of the Latitude, I spotted "Team of Rivals: The political genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It was among the books recommended by RW Johnson for stocking at BNC#5. But try as we might, we were unable to source any copies.
Thanks to the generosity of our business partners in lending me this prized copy, I'm now reading the Pulitzer prize-winning book Barack Obama says was the source of his inspiration. It's a study in discipline, humility and pulling-up-by-one's-own-bootstraps.
Lincoln and the rivals he pulled into the team that guided America through its darkest hour all experienced unimaginable personal challenges. Instead of whining, they accepted their lot, played their hands with courage and fortitude – and prevailed. There could hardly be a more stark contrast to the ANC's current crop of leaders.
