The liquidated Aurora Empowerment Systems is back in court today to face a claim of allegedly stripping assets from Pamodzi Gold's mines.

The High Court in Pretoria on Monday will hear a claim against mining company Aurora Empowerment Systems' directors for allegedly stripping the assets of the liquidated Pamodzi Gold's mines in Springs, Gauteng, and Orkney, North West.

Aurora's liquidators want to go to court to hold the company's directors responsible.

Nelson Mandela's grandson Zondwa Mandela and president Jacob Zuma's nephew Khulubuse Zuma are amongst the company's owners the liquidators want held responsible for the fraudulent running of Aurora.

Aurora was liquidated in October 2011. Its directors were accused of destroying the infrastructure at the mines and causing the loss of more than 5300 jobs.

Aurora was appointed to take over the management of two of Pamodzi Gold's mines in Gauteng and the North West after that company was liquidated in 2009.

Earlier this month, an urgent application by Zuma to have claims of over R1.5 billion against Aurora set aside was dismissed by the high court.

On Thursday, eNCA reported that it had reliably learnt that Mandela was being sought by the Hawks for a statement.

This related to a 2010 shares deal between Aurora and Labat Africa involving R5.3 million.

According to the report, the Hawks searched for Mandela at the Nelson Mandela Foundation's offices and the late former president's home in Houghton, Johannesburg.

However, the Hawks would not confirm it was searching for him in connection with an ongoing fraud probe relating to Aurora.
