Johannesburg – ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe will table his office’s report on alleged state capture by the politically connected Gupta family at this weekend’s NEC meeting.

“The process will be reported in the NEC this weekend,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the party’s national list committee meeting in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

He would not comment further on the matter.

In March, Mantashe said the national executive committee had instructed officials and the national working committee to investigate allegations that the Guptas, who are said to have close ties with President Jacob Zuma, his family and other ANC leaders, were influencing Cabinet appointments.

Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas and former MP Vytjie Mentor had said the Guptas had offered them Cabinet positions. At the time, Mantashe said the issue was being taken seriously and called on those with evidence to come forward.

Earlier this month, ANC national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said the process was ongoing and people were still coming forward with information. – News24
