Each December, The Economist names its "Country of the Year," honoring nations that have shown remarkable progress. In 2024, Bangladesh claimed the title for toppling an autocratic regime led by Sheikh Hasina. Student-led protests ushered in a technocratic government under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, stabilizing the economy and restoring order. While challenges remain, Bangladesh's strides toward liberal governance and democracy highlight its transformative year.
