MUST WATCH – Purest love: Denali, cancer survivor Ben Moon’s best friend
Grab the tissues. Here's the incredibly moving video that's gone viral worldwide. It features film-maker Ben Moon's devoted Denali, a pitbull-husky cross. They met at an animal rescue centre when Denali was eight weeks old and Moon was 24. An adventure photographer, in 2004 Moon was diagnosed with stage three cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes. Denali wouldn't leave his side: "He would climb on to my hospital bed and step around all my IV cords. I was really grateful to have him there… When you have cancer, all you can think about is the moment. I was just trying to be as positive as I could." After he recovered, Moon featured his best friend in most of his commissioned shots, turning him into a celebrity: "My photo editor would email me and say: 'Why aren't there more of Denali?' At age 14, the dog got cancer and Moon reciprocated: "He was there for me while I went through my struggle with that. Being there for him seemed like the only thing to do." As the narrator speaking as Denali tells us in this beautiful seven minute video, people can learn much from dogs. Near the end Denali tells us on the last day he stopped eating: "He let me sleep on his chest all night. Ben said a raven swooped by when he carried me to the car the next morning. I'm sure his hippy friends had a lot to say about that." Just the thing to put life back into perspective. – Alec Hogg
