CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Google & Facebook testify before Congress – Wall Street Journal
One thing the pandemic has brought to light, more than ever, is that it's the age of the monopoly. Like e-commerce giant Amazon, which is included in the BizNews share portfolio, amassing an even greater hold on the industry. This saw the world's richest man, Jeff Bezos rapidly grow a $179bn (R2.9tn) fortune, and climbing. It's clear that tech titans have reaped the rewards of dominance and now the 'big four', namely Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google are set to answer some hard questions. Along with Bezos, CEOs Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai will appear before members of the US Congress. Topics will include Apple's 30% cut on all its App Store sales and Facebook's dominance over its 2.5 billion cross-platform users. Whether the companies will be penalised or not is not what's at stake. Rather CEOs need to win in the court of public opinion. Here, the Wall Street Journal breaks it down. – Nadim Nyker
