EDINBURGH — Amazon has been playing an interesting game with consumer and voter sentiment. Instead of picking a second city to take spill-over from its Seattle headquarters, Amazon encouraged cities around the US to enter into a competition for its HQ2. The game got real estate developers excited in areas on the lengthy list of contenders and helped fuel property prices. But, the long-running contest has come to an end, with New York's Queens area and Crystal City, south of Washington DC, the victors. As The Wall Street Journal observes: The competition was a marketing campaign for Amazon in which it generated positive publicity by demonstrating that it is generating jobs and boosting prosperity across the US. – Jackie Cameron
