DUBLIN — No one likes to think about the consequences of dementia. Caring for a family member diagnosed with dementia can be a wrenching and painful experience. My grandmother, for example, suffered from a form of dementia. Towards the end of her life, she was unable to recognise her family members or care for herself. Various family circumstances made it necessary for us to put her in an old age care facility, but even simply visiting was an emotional thing. For those caring for a dementia patient at home, the burden can be immense. Some are pinning their hopes on technology, which can help track and monitor those suffering from dementia. But even the best of technology can't prevent all misfortunes. – Felicity Duncan
