Panic around the coronavirus rose a notch yesterday after a new strain of Covid-19 was discovered in the UK, Denmark and, apparently also South Africa. Although this derivative is no more deadly nor vaccine resistant than the existing strain, it is apparently 70% more contagious. As a result, travel from the UK is being blocked by a growing number of countries – and with SA named among the sources of the new strain, OR Tambo may become even quieter in coming weeks.
