Covid-19 is not bad flu. It affects your brain, too – The Wall Street Journal
Many South Africans ask whether it's necessary for the government to keep the entire country under lockdown as the world waits for a vaccine or cure for the deadly Covid-19 virus, which sprang into life at the end of last year. After all, relatively few people have died, with less than 30 Covid-19 confirmed deaths as of 15 April. In the US, which has the highest number of confirmed cases at more than 600 000, and not far off 25 000 deaths, as reported by Johns Hopkins University, the patterns and effects of the coronavirus are being collated and analysed. The Wall Street Journal picks up on the scary details of how this new disease is making people sick and killing them. Hospitals in Europe and elsewhere have been calling for ventilators; in the US, demand is also rising for equipment to assist with neurological examinations as it becomes clear that Covid-19 doesn't just hit people with flu-like symptoms – aside from the heart and kidneys, the brain can be affected, too. – Jackie Cameron
