DUBLIN – Every now and then, we get a piece of news that invites us to step away from our day-to-day preoccupations and worries and think about something bigger for a moment. The news out of the Philippines of the discovery of what may be a previously unknown human species is that kind of news. It reminds us of the long path our species has walked and how little we really know about where we came from. It also highlights how important it is for us to keep learning and digging (in this case, literally – it took researchers three years to dig the suitcase of bones our of a cave).
