Return of the snake: Nokia’s comeback – The Wall Street Journal
DUBLIN – I remember the Nokia 3310 well. I, like so many people, had one back in the early 2000s. It was a great little phone for its time. The predictive text was great, the OS was easy to use, and of course, it had the killer app of the period: Snake. Things have changed for Nokia since those days. Today, it's targeting something a little bigger than the 3310 – it wants to become a giant in the world of telecommunications equipment manufacturing. That space is dominated by China's Huawei. But given that China is on the outs with the US and the Americans are trying hard to prevent allies from buying its 5G equipment, Nokia has a fair shot of grabbing a chunk of the market. I'll miss Snake, obviously, but I'm sure we'll all welcome a 5G network that isn't designed to spy on us. Or, at least, that isn't designed to let government spy on us. I'm sure that private companies will do as much tracking, monitoring, and spying on 5G as they do on 4G. – Felicity Duncan
