To curb the spread of Covid-19, companies around the globe have been forced to work remotely. It has made many of us wonder if physical offices and face-to-face meetings are a thing of the past. However, according to a survey conducted during level four of the lockdown, 86% of South Africans wished to return to a physical office. Linda Trim, director at Giant Leap (the consultancy completing the survey) said that while remote work was initially very popular, as time went on, people realised they had a severe lack of work-life balance. In fact, 81% of respondents felt that remote work had made communication more difficult. The respondents felt isolated; missing colleagues, and social workplace interactions. – Claire Badenhorst
